Review of Jurassic World (2015) by Robert H — 01 Sep 2017
Seeing this movie get anything above rotten on this site, and go on to become a box office success should have been enough forewarning that only a year later the age of Trump, Brexit and neo-fascism would dawn. It was clear even then, the public at large had lost all sense of what constitutes quality anymore.
The whole premise of Jurassic Park is that it's a monster movie where the monsters aren't monsters... they're animals. Animals that form the perfect challenge to mankind's natural hybris over nature. Ripe for Catharsis, perfect for storytelling to it's core. Experts in their field, well established in the film, are tested to their limit to survive the Cretaceous equivalent of hungry hyenas and lions. A storm, and some human malice throw a carefully balanced system to the wind and everything falls to pieces.
Jurrasic World offer no such depth. The whole movie feels like a crappy storyline thrown together to show dinosaurs fighting dinosaurs and beating the best weaponry humans can throw at it through one miraculous event after another. A bullet can kill an elephant, but a whole platoon unloading entire clips of semi automatic assault rifles don't even scratch this new villain, the I.Rex. Ankylodon, a creature literally with a one ton flail of bone for a tail gets a full hit on the I.Rex's jaw- which would pulverise any bone, effectively disarming the creature is again ignored. A sixteen year old American kid can drive stick. A woman in heels can treck through a jungle and outrun a T-Rex. Raptors can 'team up' with humans and other dinosaurs.... How ignorant do you expect your audience to be?
Honestly anyone remotely involve in the story of this film should be blacklisted. Thoroughly despicable adaptation of a fundamentally awe-inspiring premise.
Honestly, anyone involved in the story of this atrocity should be blacklisted.
