Review of Jurassic Park III (2001) by David L — 19 Jul 2014
There's something appealing about dinosaur films that means no matter how many in this series are produced, there will always be a huge audience for them. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think these are just for kids either, as the parents would be quite gripped by them too.
They have generally been terrifying films in the sense that it's all about prehistoric creatures that feed upon humans for their meals so it's probably all a bit too much for the younger of children, especially given that the later episodes have spiced it up a little bit with a more advanced level of special effects, and greater references to gore.
To be honest, the showing that I watched was prior to 6pm on TV and they had actually cut out several key moments given their brutality so it wasn't actually clear that anyone had died, they just disappeared and were referred to as dead.
This detracted from the storyline in a big way given it's not a highly populated cast in the first instance. I do like the way that a new dimension has been added to this film, and fresh dinosaurs have been included within it including the flying pterodactyls .
It's a little more predictable than the others and doesn't quite have the entertainment levels of the original, but it's still a credible film, popular because not may other directors have produced along the jurassic dinosaur route.
I'll definitely be watching the 4th edition due out in 2015 and despite not anticipating it to surpass its predecessors, it'll be a barrel of laughs guaranteed!
