Review of Jurassic Park III (2001) by Stephen Z — 27 Jul 2015
When the heck are people going to realize that they need to stay away from dinosaur-inhabited islands?! Apparently not anytime soon. Thus we find ourselves making a third trip to the world's deadliest theme park in "Jurassic Park III".
Like "The Lost World", "Jurassic Park III" fails to capture the novelty and awe of the first film. This is very much an action-driven film, and as such, doesn't take time to focus on some of the fun, harmless dinosaurs. The result is that "Jurassic Park III" lacks the fun of the original film. That said, the Spinosaur is a great, new threat, the Pterodon scene is fantastic, and the animated dinosaurs look better than ever.
I am also happy to have Sam Neill return to the dino franchise. He once again proves himself to be this franchise's more appealing lead over Jeff Goldblum. The rest of the cast is under-developed and pretty expendable; I could leave 'em or take 'em.
Though it does not quite reach the level of its classic predecessor, "Jurassic Park III" still manages to create plenty of scares and suspense. No matter how many Jurassic Park films they make, one fact will always remain true; watching dinosaurs chase people never gets old.
