Review of Jurassic Park (1993) by Alison C — 22 Nov 2014
I think it's safe to say this has become a classic. Maybe nostalgia is on my side though. I remember I was obsessed with this and The Lost World and had a Jurassic Park themed birthday where we watched both movies.
And as I recall, I was the only one watching while my friends played truth or dare behind the couch. Anyway. I love this movie. Like Jaws, beneath the surface, which is an awesome thrill-ride of a blockbuster, there's some profound thematic stuff going on.
Like chaos theory and the dangers of trying to play God/thinking man is outside of and above nature. There's a lot of brilliance to this movie. I sure wish the blockbusters of today were more like this.
The T. rex attack is awesome. The raptors in the kitchen is awesome. I love the subtle nods to Dr. Strangelove and Psycho. The animatronics look so good! The CGI is so impressive, given the time. I don't think it's perfect or that it 100% holds up.
Still, they did the best job they could in 1993. I love this movie. It's loaded with iconic moments and images. It's fun. It's smart. Oh Spielberg. They just don't make em like this anymore.
