Review of Jupiter Ascending (2015) by Jasmene R — 08 Jul 2015
I wanted to like it. I really did. Usually I'm the person that will come to the defense of sci-fi movies that are underrated that I found I could appreciate. But unfortunately, this one didn't score high even in my book.
What I can say for it is that the effects were awesome and the story had a good premise. But the plot was so uneven and jumpy that there were times I was disoriented for a few seconds, and not in the pleasant way.
At times the plot would flow well and I would get excited, hoping it would remain reasonably cohesive for the duration of the movie, but once again, I'd be disappointed. I will say that all of the actors did a great job, save for the leading actress, Mila Kunis.
I hate to say it, but nothing about her performance felt believable to me. A lot of it felt forced, and some of her reactions to the situations that she (playing Jupiter) found herself in didn't seem to fit.
It seems like it really could've been an excellent movie if the plot flowed a little better and there was a different lead actress. Just my two cents.
