Review of Jupiter Ascending (2015) by Kevin R — 10 Jul 2015
Time is the most precious commodity in the universe.
Jupiter Jones is an ordinary girl of sorts that lives with crazy parents but has a fairly privileged life. She doesn't have much direction and really doesn't feel comfortable in her own skin at times. One day she is grabbed by aliens who wish to kill her and a strange dog/man thing rescues her. She discovers she is the queen of Earth and responsible for its wellbeing; and just in time, as a man wants to sell the human raise for profit.
"I could do this procedure with my eyes closed.".
The Wachowski Brothers, directors of the Matrix Trilogy, V for Vendetta, Speed Racer, and Cloud Atlas, deliver Jupiter Ascending. The storyline for this picture is just okay with a unique science fiction plot, wonderful CGI, and fairly good action scenes. The acting is very mediocre and the cast includes Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, and Christina Cole.
"Life is an act of consumption.".
Jupiter Ascending is a movie that grabbed my attention when the previews first aired. I was disappointed this received such poor reviews; but now that I have seen it, I understand why. This picture had a lot of potential, and the action and special effects were great, but the plot and cast choice did not elevate the film to the level it should have been. I recommend skipping this.
"No fighting at dinner.".
Grade: C-.
