Review of Jupiter Ascending (2015) by Dragonsfoe . — 02 May 2016
A Spaceship-wreck.
Jupiter Ascending is a large disappointment, but that could be predictable due to the film's early release in January. It is a sloppy film with many faults, but is still visually eye catching.
The wachowski's have a great visual eye. The atmosphere of the world is beautiful and fantastic to look at. The action sequences are also well choreographed and Tatum's flying shoes are a great addition.
Sadly there are far more negatives than positives in the film. It's biggest problem is its main character, Jupiter. In a film which is marketed to have a strong female lead, Kunis' character comes off to be a damsel in distress, always having to saved by Tatum's good looking cliche hero character. The story is predictable and suffered by focusing on space politics.
Overall the film is a large disappointment, hopefully the next time he Wachowski's make a film, they'll make it work.
Rating: 6.3 (C-).
