Review of Jupiter Ascending (2015) by Tvjerry — 09 Feb 2015
Since their big hits, the Wachowskis have tried all kinds of promising spectacles, but none have approached the breakthrough status of their "Matrix" trilogy. In this one, a woman named Jupiter (Mila Kunis) isn't very happy with her mundane existence, until she's whisked off to another galaxy by a hunky alien (Channing Tatum).
She enters a universe where her genetic signature promises amazing things. Sounds cool enough, but the visuals offer nothing that a high-end videogame doesn’t. There are no dazzling new EFX or wondrous concepts, just a lot of hectic, noisy chases and impending-doom drama.
It feels like the filmmakers have attempted to assemble a blockbuster by delivering all of the genre's staples, but have ended up with a bland and unexciting derivative.
