Review of Juno (2007) by Jacob D — 22 Aug 2012
Juno is starring some big names, big Oscar bait, and big controversy. But the film pushes past all of those things to become an quirky independent movie. It still got Oscar noms, Best Picture, Best Actress (Ellen Page), Best Director, and a win for Best Original Screenplay.
The film is about a girl who gets pregnant by her best friend and tries to deal with it. She puts it up for adoption and the film really takes off. You get a sense of what kind of humor it's going for when you hear Rainn Wilson's little quips at the beginning and Ellen Page's constant hipster teen talk and music, tv, and film references (Thundercats are GO!).
The film grows as Juno's child grows and becomes infinitely more entertaining as the characters grow into themselves, which is good and funny to watch. While most parent wonder how to talk to their kids about sex and the consequences it can have, if they see this film, or let their kids see it, it'll help them a good deal.
Simply put, Sex is messy, wondrous, and has consequences. How you deal with those consequences is your own decision. Juno defiantly helps teach the world that it may not be easy, but it is do-able, and when done right is something to behold.
The same thing goes for the film. 5/5.
