An atmospheric but dull-as-ditch-water first hour. It picks up when the rodeo gets underway and the action scenes have some great zip. Plus there's a classic bar fight. Steve McQueen epitomises cowboy cool but can't cover up a paper-thin plot and an essentially boring film.
