Review of Jungle Fever (1994) by Paul P — 19 Aug 2007
Watching this again recently, it struck me that Wesley Snipes can be a great actor when he wants to be.....
Spike examines racial tensions again and he has got a great cast to help him do that. The only problem is that pretty much every character is nasty and bigotted in their own way. There are lengthy scenes with the different chacacters bemoaning the relationship between Wesley's and Annabella Sciorra's characters, yet at no point do they attempt to explain why... Without that understanding, I just couldn't connect with the flick as much as I would have wanted. That being said, it's an interesting film and the cast are pretty good. Sam Jackson is frighteningly good as Gator the crackhead. His scenes are excellent and it is always a better film when he is on screen.
Spike has put together a pretty good flick and having Stevie Wonder on hand for the soundtrack... A real smart move....
