Review of Jungle Fever (1994) by Curtis P — 03 Jan 2008
The third Spike Lee joint I have seen and I was very impressed...He developed a compelling story from threads of drama, comedy and social commentary, weaving them into a single cohesive whole...My favorite character was Paulie because John Turturro didn't portray the racist I expected to see from Do the Right Thing.
Instead he was just an average guy taking care of his widowed father and trying to cope with the racism projected onto him by those who frequent his father's shop...Other than the actual plot, the film techniques used during specific scenes engrossed me in the film even more, especially the continuous arcs around the table when Wesley Snipes resigns from his job the use of street signs during the opening credit montage.
