Review of Jungle Book (1942) by Patrick D — 13 Sep 2009
Much like Sabu's other larger-than-life retelling of an epic tale, Thief of Baghdad, Jungle Book is a wonderful and breathtaking masterpiece. The colors are so vibrant for a film from the early 40s, and the actual use of animals is stunning.
Even Ka the snake is pulled off surprisingly well, better than Anaconda 55 years later, sans CGI. Sabu is an amazing actor, completely convincing as Mowgli, a boy lost in the jungle and raised by a pack of wolves.
It is so sad to see how painstakingly detailed and masterfully shot films once were. If only we could have another decade of film like the 40s and 50s, and hell, even another Sabu. Also, this blows the Disney version out of the water.
