Review of Junebug (2005) by Bill T — 20 Feb 2008
Pretty wildly fluctuating movie that veers from comedy, pathos to, yes, religious salvation it seems. All the characters are fine, the plot somewhat interesting. It's just the direction meanders all over the place.
What was with the "Oh, we're so verite" camera work when we're just, for example, looking at trees (among many many examples). I wished the filmmakers would have stuck with what worked, and that was definitely the comedy.
. there were times when I laughing loudly, then sidetracking with the character's religious beliefs. Like, I'm all for religion, it's just the fact that this was stuck in the middle of the film for really no good reason that sticks to my craw.
