Definitely exceeded my expectations, and surprised me with how in-depth the movie delved into the characters. they were so fleshed out that I was practically writing papers on them in my head....but that's probably just me.
Amy Adams gives one hell of a breakthrough performance and the rest of the cast is (almost) equally astonishing. I still don't get the whole yodeling thing at the beginning, but that's not really important (at least, I assume so).
the movie ends on multiple perfectly subtle points (which would have been way too direct if they used the deleted scenes instead).
