Review of Junebug (2005) by Nathaniel H — 11 Jun 2010
There's only one reason to see Junebug and that is Amy Adams' extraordinary supporting performance which many argue should have won the Oscar that year (the rest of the acting, especially the stunning and mysterious Embeth Davidtz is quite good too).
As for everything else in the movie? Slow, frustrating, dramatically indecisive, and more than a tad condescending to its southern rural characters. Director Phil Morrison treats stillness as though it were cinema's most sacred virtue (it's like being stuck in Amish country watching green grow on grass).
And yet-and yet-many critics were gaga. Well, not this one.
