Review of Junebug (2005) by Leah P — 13 Mar 2008
A powerful depiction of a dysfunctional family made up of distinct, yet believable characters. Initially it shows the obvious naivete of the Southern family but develops to reveal the similar weaknesses of the seemingly perfect businesswoman. As the movie progresses you learn, as Madeleine does, to appreciate the family's way of life instead of looking upon it in a conceited or pitiful way.
I was really impressed with Benjamin McKenzie, seeing as I'd only ever seen him in The OC, and with Will Oldham's two minutes of screen-time.. but I can't begin to compare any aspect of this film to Amy Adams' acting; she's absolutely phenomenal and steals the limelight from everyone else in this film, even though there's not one weak actor amongst the lot.
