Jitterbug! Jitterbug! "Junebug!" "Junebug!" Wake me up before you go go because I thought the film "Junebug" was very so-so. OK, I did not mean to "Wham!" you with my introduction of the independent flick "Junebug", but I must say that I am in tune with my mediocre outlook of the movie.

"Junebug" stars Alessandro Nivola and Embeth Davditz as George and Madeline, an urban newlywed couple who travel to a rural North Carolina town so Madeline could meet George's dysfunctional southern family.

Talk about your southern discomfort for Madeline!. Celia Weston plays Peg, the hypercritical mother who despises Madeline's contemporary beliefs. Scott Wilson is dad Eugene who sleepwalks throughout "Junebug" and is definitely under the domain of Peg, for that matter you can nickname Eugene a "Peg Square".

Ben McKenzie plays Johnny, George's arrogant brother who also despises Madeline and to think about it every living that breathes. Oh! Johnny Be Good! Angus MacLachlan stereotypical southern script does lack the intensity to broaden its southern horizons.

Director Phil Morrison's dysfunctional direction of a dysfunctional southern family was second-rate because it did not dig enough into the reasoning of the characters eccentricities. However, I must say that the spark plug of "Junebug" was the sparkling performance of Amy Adams as Ashley, Johnny's chatterbox pregnant wife who delivers the southern hospitality of the narrative.

Her Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination spoke recognition volumes of her voluble acting. "Junebug" bites many times but do not give it some "Off" until you observe the charged up "AA" thespian batteries of Amy Adams.

*** Average.
