Review of Junebug (2005) by William D — 29 Sep 2009
When I was a little kid the neighbor kids and I would call my brother Junebug. That childhood memory has absolutely nothing to do with this movie, but I had to tell the story. Boy meets girl in an art gallery.
Girl wants to meet artist. They travel to North Carolina to meet artist and visit boy's family. Boy's family is dysfunctional, but the artist is really eccentric. Nobody talks to anybody - it's an odd script - and makes it hard to tell the story.
This movie is not a movie I would recommend - unless you live in North Carolina - are from Carolina - or you think you would like to be in Carolina. Amy Adams gives a great performance of a woman who is expecting a baby, and wishes she was her brother-in-law's girl friend.
The boy's parents are so quiet it is easy to see why people don't talk to each other. The best part of the movie is when the boy sings a hymn when he goes to church. The harmony was wonderful! The nudity and sexual content would make this movie undesirable for some people - and it generally seems un-necessary.
It doesn't really help the movie. I'm not sure what would help this movie. Maybe some good dialogue.
