Review of Junebug (2005) by Maria X — 17 Feb 2008
A lovely, lovely film. The sort where nothing much happens, but nothing much needs to happen - it's like in everyday life. It's more important to observe the feelings, the unsaid. I loved the way the director was not in a hurry to move from one sequence to another but he let the camera linger gracefully, leaving you space to think and digest what had been said.
Also the character development was fantastic. In the space of a few days everyone grew just a little bit, and none of this was showed in a very obvious way, completely managing to avoid being patronising.
A rare gem!
