Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) by Lama H — 14 Feb 2018
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is a sequel to the hit movie "Jumanji," It is about four high schoolers who get sucked into a video game called "Jumanji." They become avatars in this game and are given challenges that enhance each of their character's inner strengths and weaknesses.
Spencer Gilpin becomes Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Anthony "Fridge" Johnson is Moose Finbar, Bethany Walker turns into Professor Shelly Oberon, and Martha Kaply plays as Ruby Roundhouse. They must fight must fight for their lives in order to survive the game, finish all the levels, and get back to the real world.
And here is the scary part - if they die in the game, they are stuck in Jumanji forever! This movie is directed by Jake Kasdak, which is widely known for other popular movies, such as "The Accidental Tourist," "Silverado," and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
" The characters of "Jumanji" are played by some favored actors and actresses. Playing Dr. Smolder Bravestone is Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Heart as Moose Finbar, Jack Black as Professor Shelly Oberon, and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse.
The genre of this film is extensive in the sense that it contains comedy, drama, romance, adventure, science-fiction, and much more. It is rated PG-13, which makes this a great movie to watch with family or friends.
A movie closely related to this one is "Wreck it Ralph" due to the fact that it runs the same way "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" does. Both movies have characters who are trying to complete tasks throughout a video game in order to succeed or survive to get to the end of the game.
This movie works well for me because it was a great mix of humorous and adventurous. It keeps the audience wondering how the characters are going to survive, what strategies they will use, and how the ending may be because of the different character's strengths and weaknesses throughout the film.
The angles in the camera were great, things looked realistic, yet cartoonish, as if in a real-life game. The camera was steady throughout the film in quiet and parts that require focus, yet there was a lot of close-ups and far shots when it was needed to be like that in those moments.
The thing I would would change for this film is playing the four high schoolers as stereotypical types of students, because it gives us a hint of why the video game characters are their complete opposites, which is to teach them a lesson.
The music was also very good in this movie as well as the sounds played throughout the film for animals, humans, weapons, and the "magic" aspect that makes up the whole film. Overall, I would say that this movie fits into most genres, specifically adventure and science-fiction.
It is a fun-well rounded movie for families and teenagers, as well as adults!
