Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) by Toshi T — 13 Apr 2018
Barely watchable.
This reboot-sequel-reboot whatever they wanna call it, does have the basics, and it does seem good on paper.
It has a nice world, okay characters, and they do have an arc throughout the narrrative.
The presentation of these elements however is very sloppy, making the action and characters feel the polar opposite of "vibrant", and making the movie itself feel very "artificial".
I get it. There is a certain appeal of the Rock playing a nerd, and the others playing against their types. But they rely on this joke so much that they actually make it old in the first third of the film.
The highlight of the film is the Rock's physical action, and you can get that in any other movie starring him.
