Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) by Hermesthoth — 27 Jan 2018
Great cast and some decent special effects, but the movie's script falls completely flat. Most of the scenes don't lead into each other in any meaningful way, characters don't make any decisions at all(rather the game decides for them), and the story proceeds in a completely predictable fashion.
Return the macguffin, avoid the obstacles. Without a meaningful villain or any genuine character motivations, the movie ends up feeling like two hours of filler. If it wasn't for the charismatic cast this probably would have put me to sleep.
Would rather watch someone play a video game.
