Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) by Duke N — 27 Dec 2017
Jumanji is the most fun I've had in a movie theatre in 2017, easily. The casting was great, the plot was interesting, and it was directed with a good balance of humor, rationale, and exciting, nail biting scenes.
Thank god it wasnt very similar the incredibly awful original, but it still paid homage to it. Sure Kevin Hart wasnt too much like the teenager he was supposed to have taken the personality of, but at the same time I think anybody would have much rather seen the hilarious, laugh out loud Kevin than the flat football player personality.
Every actor did something different and comical with their role and while the movie captured the dire situation the teenagers were in, it still kept up an upbeat tone with the death scenes all being colorful and entertaining.
I couldn't recommend seeing this movie more, and dont pay attention to the critic/audience score not being higher, the majority of criticism was wanting Kevin Hart to be less funny, the movie to be more like the original (awful), and video game nerds complaining about stupid intricacies.
See. This. Movie.
