Review of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) by Richard A — 22 Dec 2017
I found this movie hysterical. I laughed almost all the way through and so did the entire audience! Each of the main characters are funny in their own way and the chemistry is perfect. The only people that won't like it are Snooty McSnootsens who go there expecting either a) an award-winning drama with emotional depth, or b) some tie-in to the original story.
Besides the board game and the existence of a jungle it really has nothing to do with the original Jumanji, which is fine. This movie stands on its own. Its an action-adventure, heavy on comedy with a pinch of romance thrown in.
Aside from one, 10-second "erection" joke/scene I think it is great for people of all ages. That gag will probably go over the heads of young kids, but still - I wish they had just left it out.
As a final comparison, I would say this movie is to video games what Scream was to horror movies.
