That's the perfect word to describe this movie. Although I did like it when I was younger, it just doesn't seem to hold up anymore.
For its time, the special effects may have worked fine. But now, its looks laughably bad. On top of that, the special effects really don't do much for the movie. Gene siskel would say "Okay, so what?" honestly I agree, because the effects played no purpose to the story.
