Review of Julie & Julia (2009) by Domor — 14 Aug 2009
The movie is good and perfectly enjoyable but I think it doesn't really show the true Julia Child. It is a feverish, commercially narcissistic endeavor from start to finish given a great deal more merit due to Meryl Streep's performance.
All the shallow wanna-be chefs in the audience made it all the more ironic: they're devouring this film as if it were scripture. Sad really, since those vain little pretentious bores lapping it up will never have the talent or passion that Child had.
Instead they'll watch the film, act like they've been touched by god and go out and buy some overpriced olive oil at Whole Foods and think they too are gourmands.
