While it's true that Jule & Julia can sometimes sag when it's "Julie", one wishes for less whining from her, this film is a great crowd pleaser. When I saw it, in an almost-full matinee screening, the audience laughed throughout and at the end gave it generous applause.

Meryl, if you won't marry me, couldn't you at least adopt me? What a delight, every second that Meryl/Julia is on screen.
