Review of Julie & Julia (2009) by Niloo R — 04 Dec 2011
I liked the actors, the cinemotography and the dialogue, but I felt like the story wasn't quite good enough. I didn't like amy adam's character, and found her to be weak, whiny, and all together annoying.
I usually like amy adams, but I just didn't like the character of julie powell. I liked meryl streep's character/ side of the story much more, although I think the movie contradicted itself and shattered the image of julia child as a loving and lovable person by making her hate julie powell, who idolized her.
I didn't think julie powell's story was particularly interesting or worth being made into a movie. a movie JUST about julia child's road to success would have been more interesting and tighter.
this movie was way too long, because it was trying to tell two stories simultaneously. As soon as the audience got engaged in one story, the scene switched to the other story, making the film choppy and hard to follow.
because of this, the film became very boring, causing me to fall asleep in the movie theatre. overall, I think this movie was too ambitious, and tried too hard to do too much.
