Review of Julie & Julia (2009) by Hsiao Ling P — 28 Dec 2011
It is really a delicious two hours of a movie that you hope wouldn't end because this movie makes you smile and feel good all throughout. Top notch performances by Meryl, Amy, Stanley and Chris. The four of them play two happy, loving and supportive couples that is often lost in our modern, cruel and hard-hitting world. (Dear GG writers: Can't you please take a dose of this and hand it to Chair?).
The movie rolled out beautifully with a wonderful blend of two eras and an amazing parallel of lives exhibited by Julie and Julia, both heroines in their own rights. Meryl was as always in her elements as she played the happy-go-lucky Julia Child and brilliantly complemented by Stanley as her loving and oh-so-dear husband. Amy was fabulous as the thirty-year old Julie Powell, also nicely supported by Chris as her oh-so-lucky husband who always get to devour her cooking.
When Julie complained to her husband that she's getting fat after starting on her food blog, I began to feel fat too watching the two ladies preparing and cooking dish after dish of mouthwatering french cuisine. This movie not only features lots of food and cooking and the thought that goes into it but also, writing and blogging and getting published besides the importance of having the support of your loved ones and doing something that you really love with your life.
Seeing Julie in the Julia Child's Kitchen at the Smithsonian gives me a glimpse of what I would feel like when I do make my way to Prince Edward Island one day. Kate Middleton (or Windsor) is really sweet to have made a stop there for her US and Canada tour.
It wasn't hard to want to watch this movie as it has two of my favourite actresses. Now I can't wait to watch The Iron Lady and Man of Steel. :).
