Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Brandon M — 20 Jul 2008
This is probably the worst film I've ever seen that's considered to be a classic. Jules and Jim meet Catherine in pre WW1 in France and make cute, roaming through France at a jazzy, swift tempo.
But I found this first half of the film to be antic and precious as opposed to charming and clever. And things only get worse from there. World War 1 comes and goes leaving the characters older and filled with regret.
The second half is mind-numbingly repetitive. And the idea that Catherine is a "real woman" is pretty sexist since Catherine seems to be an emotionally unstable sociopath. Why anyone would want to spend any amount of time with these characters is beyond me.
