The most beautiful movie I've seen in a long time, if not ever. Heartbreaking and also exhilarating. The voice over is very quirky and poetic. Somehow it reminded me of the movie saw I saw about a week ago, Vicky Christina Barcelona, with its tongue in cheek voiceover and unconventional consensual love triangle (but nowhere near as brilliant or as ambitious as Jules et Jim). I wonder if Woody Allen was influenced by this movie when making his.
In any case, I know now why Jules et Jim is considered to be one of the best movies ever made. The scene where Jeanne Moreau sings Le Tourbillon de la Vie is one of my favourite of all time. An enchanting song. Moreau is wonderful in the movie.
I have to watch everything Truffaut's done now.
