Review of Juice (1992) by Rayshaun G — 11 Jul 2012
Spoiler Alert!
This is one of my favorite movies, but it makes absolutely no sense. One minute Raheem stops Bishop from getting involved in Blizzard's robbery and gives a speech proclaiming that "that crazy motherf*****r is going down" and he won't let any of his friends follow suit. Not twenty minutes further into the film (mind you, this is after they have seen that Blizzard was killed during his robbery attempt), Q is informed by Bishop and Steel that they're going to rob old man Quiles on Saturday night. A moment later Raheem shows them all the gun that he purchased for the robbery, and is quite adamant about the mission even in the face of Q's apprehension due to another engagement on that day. Simply put, I appreciate this movie for its general feel (think early 90's hip-hop in film form), a strong performance by Tupac and its great suspense, but one of the driving forces behind the narrative actually throws it off course.
