Review of Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer (2011) by Glenn C — 24 Apr 2012
The school holidays inspired tonights movie selection. Judy Moody And The Not Bummer Summer is a fun kidz flick about a 3rd grade girl who's grand plans for the summer break are ruined when her best friends leave town for the holidays.
With all fun seemingly dashed, fun arrives when her Aunt Opal visits and helps Judy and her brother, Stink, find adventure. It's a fun movie that kids will lap up... think Diary of A Wimpy Kid, Max Keeble's Big Move, Snow Day etc.
.. I call them "show bag movies" because they're full of cheap gags, toilet humour and uber fun. The girl who plays Judy is actually an Aussie which was a real surprise. Her accent is great.
And Heather Graham is quirky as Aunt Opal and there is a really odd 10 second cameo from Eric Stoltz. For kids there is lots to love about this one... most adults will likely be more inclined to pull teeth.
Thankfully I am a child and this type of movie ticks all the right boxes for me. Be warned, you will want to comb this girls bloody hair... it is highly irritating!!!
