Review of Judgment Night (1993) by Jeremy W — 06 Jan 2010
Judgment Night is an action adventure with a very narrow and common story with few thrills and no twists. Its strait forward but somewhat enjoyable.
Four friends get together to go to a boxing match but make a bad decision while stuck in traffic. While running late and missing the match they get off the highway looking for a shortcut on surface streets but get a lot more than they bargained for. When they hit a pedestrian they get caught up in a gang scuffle and become witnesses of murder. Together they must find a way to flee and manage to survive the night.
There are some pretty good acting for such a simple plot. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, Stephen Dorff, are the four friends and they were all alright althought I enjoyed Emilio the most. Then you have Denis Leary as a gangster leader and proficient bad guy. He has a few cronies but he was the only one worth watching. If you have seen Rescue me then you've seen his character. A ruthless and cocky loud mouth who thinks he's in control and he entertaining in his film also. All the acting is decent, bit nothing amazing.
Well I haven't seen this one for a long time but I saw it on encore so I figured why not. The overall feeling I got was slight amusement and a little thrill but nothing to call home about. It was kind of a weak story but the acting and directing made up for that. I don't think I would watch it again but who knows. This is no must see by any means but if you have the chance its an OK way to pass the time.
