Review of Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) by Ben G — 26 Nov 2009
A tribunal of American judges try Nazi war criminals in "Judgment at Nuremberg".
Spencer Tracy plays a Federal District court judge from Maine who is brought into Germany to hear the case inditing 5 German Magistrates. The US Army is prosecuting while a local German is running the defense. As the trial goes on it turns into a debate about everything that happened before, during and after Hitler's reign.
This film is a pristine court room drama with absolutely phenomenal performances from many people. Especially Maximilian Schell playing the German Defense attorney. This film is fascinating for history buffs like me. It asks a lot of interesting questions about the time. Who is really responsible? Who really knew everything going on? How should the country of Germany be punished for something that wasn't actually illegal at the time within their own country? Definitely interesting the entire 3 hours.
