Review of Jude (1996) by Bill B — 27 Jan 2009
Winterbottom is (almost) always a sure bet (apart from that horrible "nine songs"). I absolutely loved this film. all winslet, eccleston and griffiths are sublime in their roles, and winterbottom managed to get the spirit of the book.
my only bit of criticism is that sue bridehead is a bit more likable in the film than in the book, I always found her a bit too capricious and spoilt in the book, playing with poor jude all her life (i'm not saying she didn't love him), but you can understand her behaviour (a bit) more in the film.
one of the saddest stories of all time. fantastic.
