Review of Joy Ride (1958) by Dan B — 22 Nov 2011
Overlooked road thriller, somewhere between Duel and the Hitcher, that generates laughs and tension in equal measure thanks to a cracking script (co- written by JJ Abrams) and a first-rate cast, even if ultimately the film belongs to Steve Zahn's outstanding 'Black Sheep'.
Dahl's direction is largely unobtrusive, but striking when it counts and all in all this is as entertaining a 90 minutes as you'll find anywhere in the genre (and possibly beyond).
