Review of Joy Division (2009) by Sarah L — 12 May 2009
YES! This is a FANTASTIC documentary. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. A Joy Division fan since 1980, I felt like a pirate whose just found a huge box of treasure and is looking through it for the first time.
Many of the photographs I had never before seen. The "hypnosis cassette" was news to me, and I thought I knew the Joy Division myth through and through. The lion's share of principles are here with only a couple of notable exceptions (Deborah Curtis, most notably).
Their first hand testimony sheds much new light on a story that every serious rock music connoisseur should already know by heart. And if, God forbid, there is one out there who is still clueless about this classic group, no doubt he/she will be eager to investigate further after the end credits roll.
Top notch...
