Review of Joy (2015) by Rasha K — 08 Jan 2016
A very typical Russell film - quirky characters, quirky script, choice of actors.... none of that was any big surprise. I think, for me, there wasn't enough of a story to this to make it interesting.
It felt, at times, as though it wanted to pull off in certain directions - almost treading in the footsteps of Erin Brockovich with a whole court case to uncover a great wrong-doing, but it was held back on some fairly straight path.
The main character did appeal and, without any great surprise, brilliantly played by Lawrence. I like the movie - I'm just not completely sure why... Will I forget it in a few weeks - most likely.
Interesting - yes, bland - not quite... but almost.
