Review of Joy (2015) by Vicky D — 04 Jan 2016
Despite its lukewarm reviews, I really really enjoyed this. Like, a lot. I wasn't expecting to, as David O. Russel never really "nails it" for me, but this was pretty much as good a film about a woman who invented a mop could possibly hope to be.
Superb acting across the board, a great ensemble cast, and an inspiring story. It's also a pretty hilarious film throughout, there's a lot of good humour which I was not expecting. In fact, I'm not really sure what I WAS expecting, but I had a lot of fun watching this.
Then ending is perhaps a little abrupt and maybe ties things together in a nice little bow too much, but the journey before that moment honestly had me hooked.
