Review of Joy (2015) by Francisco O. A — 10 Jan 2016
Joy is an absolutely pleasant movie. The previews didn't make it look interesting at all and it started out weak, but once the story came out it became interesting.
It's only 60% on RT, and I can't say that the story could have been made more interesting. Joy is about a down on her luck woman who invents a mop and how she markets it. There are a number of amazing actors who do an OK job in Joy. Jennifer Lawrence is the lead and she shows a bit of range. The script is limiting, but she does the most she can with it. Edgar Ramirez is the most stand-out actor in Joy. He plays the ex-husband who still lives with her.
The ending was a bit lame and dragged the climax down. The 2-hour run-time made Joy a bit long.
Joy will be OK to watch on TV down the road. It's PG-13 so not too much will be taken out when it is televised. It's worth remembering down the road.
