Review of Joy (2015) by Josh W — 11 Jan 2016
Two stars for Jennifer Lawrence (well maybe three), but there is so much wrong with this movie. David O. Russell's lazy direction and clueless approach is puke inducing. How do we have a dead person narrating a true story; are you kidding me? Bradley Cooper looks like he was placed into the 80s'/90s directly from 2015.
...Skinny jeans? Nobody knew what they were in the 80s so talking about them makes no sense.. Who wrote this nonsense? Somebody tell wardrobe what the 80s was like. My gosh. Too many characters so we didn't get the depth of any figure except from Lawrence.
And that dreadful 3rd act. We're teased about an impending rivalry from Rosselini's character and Lawrence and that is solved by a 3rd act voiceover from a dead person. There is little to like about this one except for Lawrence who once again shows she could be the best thing to films in a very long time.
