Review of Joy (2015) by Emma S — 13 Jan 2016
Could watch Jennifer Lawrence read the phone directory, and this is no exception. Were it not for her this would be unbearable. The film lacks any rhythm. The highs and lows barely feature. While you might just glimpse a simmering fury, it never comes to the surface.
The end is hurried, the actual plot about her business failures almost indecipherable, the involvement of her family somewhat benign. A frustrating film which could have been so much better.
