Review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) by Robert T — 07 Sep 2009
I was surprised how fun this film was! Though I have to be honest, the direction and the performance from the cast was nothing to brag about. I recently caught this film on television, so no, I did not view it in 3D.
I did noticed some elements that were probably used for the 3D aspect was still present in the film -- particularly the film's introduction, but it looked pretty plain without the glasses. I would like to see the 3D version sometime to compare the difference, but after watching this non-3D version recently, I don't know if I even want to waste my time to watch the film the second time.
There were some high-end adventures in this film -- some were edge-of-your-seat excitement, and some jumped out which was thrilling. I noticed the CGI animation in this film was not that realistic compared to previous offerings within the same genre of films based off popular books.
I guess this film was aimed particularly to the young audience and their parents. I noticed it used a lot of bright and vivid colors, and some of the characters were quite "innocent". I have no problem with that, but I do prefer film that tend to aim toward all-ages, not just a particular age group.
But overall, the film was fun. A little cheesy and dumb at times, but it did interest me in the original book. In addition, the film's ending did yield some ideas of a sequel or some sort. I guess I just have to wait and see how interesting the sequel will be before I could judge that.
