Review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) by Ethan D — 04 Apr 2010
I will get to the review in just a moment, but I just want you guys to notice something. In the movie, the book plays a big role. However, if this was a normal Journey to the Center of the Earth, the film's world should've just imploded.
I mean, how can the book exist if the movie is based off the events of the book, am I right? Now, for the review, this movie was pretty mediocre. It wasn't necessarily unentertaining, it was just not a very good movie.
The movie stars Brendan Fraser, who has had a pretty hit and miss career with movies, as a scientist who has to babysit his nephew, Sean,(Josh Hutcherson) for ten days while his mom gets them settled into their new home in Canada.
While Sean is with him, they find that the numbers on the seismic activity are exactly like they were when Sean's father disappeared ten years ago. So, using the book as a refrence point, just like Sean's father did, they set out to Iceland, to find an old colleague of Sean's father.
They end up meeting his daughter, who is a mountain guide. She agrees to take them up the mountain where they find a seismic measuring device. However, it gets destroyed when a random lightning storm hits, and it also traps them into a cave.
They soon find out that this cave is the portal to the Center of the Earth, as described in the book. And that is all I will tell you about the movie, because a few of you may not have seen it yet. So yeah, this movie is kinda stupid.
But it also alot of fun. However, it is not a "fun" enough movie for me to rate it higher. So, yeah, this movie gets a 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.
