My dad was a marine in the SVA. He went through two years of that. I'm sorry, but he wasn't very impressed.
Now that I think about it, how can a person who wasn't even there direct a genuine account of the events? A fine work of Western cinema, I agree. It even borrows from WW2 Holocaust films. But the story has got to be believable, or at least, realistic if it labels itself as historical fiction.
