Review of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) by Jerry H — 19 Jul 2012
Inspired by classic literature, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is an enjoyable cinematic adventure romp with plenty of action and intensity, plus a dash of romance. The special effects were great; the actors were all good; and, a big plus was that there was little profanity of any sort to be found.
However, it still did have some content problems: Did Vanessa Hudgens ("High School Musical") need to be dressed that way in almost every scene? Also, did young children need to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("Get Smart", "The Game Plan") demonstrate a "pec pop"? Even some of the monsters, i.
E., oversized birds and gargantuan bees, and other scenes, such as seeing a decomposed body, might be too much the little ones. For those who aren't bothered by such things, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is great for a rental, but not something that deems a purchase.
My only hope is that those who watch it will at least consider reading the classic novels, such as "Treasure Island," "Gulliver's Travels," and the various Jules Verne works, that were referenced in the film.
