Review of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) by Jake R — 21 Aug 2012
I, like many others, had issues with the idea that Dwayne Johnson has been playing too many characters not suited for his physique and acting style. I was also intensely worried that the sequel would end up a disaster by everyone who didn't have an 8 year old child.
However, I went with my mom to see this in glorious 3D (using the most sarcastic word I can access) and my reaction? It was fun. Journey 2 surprised me as a fun, well acted, and well designed addition to the upcoming trilogy of Jules Verne novels.
Dwayne Johnson did a good job as the stepdad, Josh Hutcherson reprises his role from the previous and pulls off the same character well. The writing could be worked on, but it's definitely tolerable.
In conclusion, it's a great family film. Definitely see it with family and you'll have a great time.
