Review of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) by Bryanbezter — 24 Apr 2020

Great things about the movie:

1. It is a better and more colorful adventure than the previous movie.

2. Dwayne Johnson as Hank and Josh Hutcherson as Sean are the best aspects of the movie, especially the part where Hank sings and plays an ukulele.

Weaknesses of the movie:

1. The animation for the animals are not good enough.

2. The acting is not really believable.

3. The gold and large fruit look fake.

4. The story is not very appealing.

5. The characters are too lucky.

6. The way Sean and Alexander think and act are not really reasonable. They only think about adventure. Although Sean has found the mysterious island and his grandfather, it does not feel like he really wants all of that.

Debatable holes:

1. When Hank deciphered the code, he read the meaning faster than he translated.

2. Sean searched the coordinate very fast on the internet using his phone.

3. How did the helicopter crash into an island? If there was an island, they should have seen it.

4. No one was injured at all after the helicopter crash.

5. The island was very large, it should have been visible from the outside. There was a volcano and large creatures. The nearest islands should have also encountered some things related to the mysterious island (bizarre animals, etc).

6. The weather was stormy outside the island but it was very clear on the island.

7. The giant lizard should have eaten Hank's hand.

8. The giant lizard was easily defeated by some logs.

9. Had Alexander prepared the logs to defeat the lizard beforehand? If not, he was very quick in setting them up.

10. Alexander welcomed the visitors like it was a regular visit to someone's house.

11. How could Alexander survive by himself alone in that island for so long? How could his place is very cozy and safe?

12. Why did Alexander just send the code after all these years?

13. Scientists should have been able to discover the island based on volcanic and tectonic activities of the island.

14. It was extremely easy to mount a bee.

15. These new people easily knew how to ride a bee and fly them skillfully.

16.The birds should have been able to catch the bees, they were larger and faster.

17. How could Sean catch Kailani perfectly when he was flying on a bee and Kailani was falling very fast?

18. They were not cold at all in the middle of the jungle with thin and wet clothes.

19. If the volcano was erupting, then it should have been very hot.

Message from the movie:

The movie talks about the important role of a father: Sean lost his father, Alexander (as a father) abandoned his family for an adventure, Hank wanted to be a good father for Sean, Hank's father left him when he was 8, and Kailani also had her relationship with her papa. An adventure between a father and his children is a powerful bonding.
